About us

MINING THE FUTURE FROM THE PAST

LEVERAGING ABANDONED MINE WASTE FOR RAPID PROGRESS
Our focus is on tapping into the potential of abandoned mine waste to ensure a quicker time-to-market for essential materials.

STRENGTHENING CRITICAL US SUPPLY CHAINS
We are committed to augmenting critical US supply chains by providing the necessary materials, contributing to a more resilient and self-reliant economy.

ACCELERATING THE CLEAN ENERGY TRANSITION
We aim to drive the clean energy transition by addressing material supply shortages that hinder progress, enabling a more sustainable future for all.

THE PROBLEM
Critical materials are taking too long to get to market, leaving US cell manufacturers dangerously dependent upon foreign countries for their supply chain. Massive investment has lined up behind US lithium battery cell manufacturing – but US sourced materials require that a company must:

1. Identify a source location/sediment/brine sufficiently rich so as to be economically viable
2. Secure the mineral rights to that location/substrate
3. Obtain all necessary permitting to extract the materials
4. Invest in capital & operating expenses to get from “in-ground/raw” to “feedstock”
5. Process feedstock into a highly purified battery material quality product… at scale

Our mission is to significantly reduce Time & Expense in the first 4 Steps, and undo at least some of the damage that has been done over centuries of mining in this country.

Services

what we do

Characterize

Our team members bring years of mining services experience and provide onsite & real-time sample characterization. We will deploy robust lab-worthy equipment at the mine waste location;performing high resolution scanning/photography providing lithological/structural assays of materialsfound in those waste piles. Industry best-practice Chain of Custody processes ensure integrity ofunderstanding sample location – as well as offering forensic backtracking so as to understand theoriginal ore-bed location.

Analyze

Our University partner has built a reputation as being the leading provider of hydrocarbon knowledge bases worldwide – having conducted research in over 70 countries. The cross-hybridization of understanding global GeoSciences, chemical engineering and artificial intelligence means that our team has a high probability of being able to extrapolate where the valuable “still in ground” resources – above and beyond those found in the waste piles – that are likely to yield materials needed for the Next Generation Energy Ecosystem.

MONETIZE
In many cases the materials found in these waste piles will not be uniform, as the waste piles have been laid down over years (even decades) of mining activity. We expect to uncover a diverse spectrum of minerals in our onsite assays, which represents both an opportunity and a problem. A relatively concentrated single-material waste pile can be of significant value to a single company, but we don’t expect to find those very often. More likely different companies will place a higher value on part of the pile, and a much lower value (or even no value) on another that would be of value to someone else. Creating a central brokerage will be critical to understanding “best and highest” value/use of those materials, which creates economic incentive for remediation in addition to removal.

By understanding both what is in the waste piles, as well as being able to scientifically infer where theorigin ore is likely to be for each strata of the waste pile, NexGen Materials can find the right partner tohelp optimize the value in those materials both in the waste piles and in the original ore bodies.

This helps to ensure that our project provides both economic and environmental benefit … the goal is to leave the site BETTER than we found it.
